All the buildings here on base are very blocky and concrete. It really gives me the feeling of WWII bunkers, which I guess is sort of fitting since the US planted this base here shortly after WWII and I'm guessing relations with Japan weren't exactly amicable at that time. In the one house we've been to, there are little square hatches in the floor on the ground level. I was very tempted to open one and see whats under it, perhaps a bomb shelter??? or maybe just a plumbing or electricity access panel. (I started this blog yesterday and had trouble with the photos, today I asked about the hatches and much to by dismay, they are nothing more exciting than access panels, though I hear they are a great place to store your wine...)
Anyway, back to the lodge. The Lodge fits the standard cinder block construction and even inside it very much has the bunker feel. All the walls and ceilings are a taupe with recessed florescent tube lighting in the ceilings (like in a school or whatever). The lights in the halls give off a dull yellowish glow and there are fire hydrants behind huge red plates of medal with a big glowing red light the really lends to the ambiance of walking through the halls of an underground bunker.
Here are some pictures of my enormous kitchen!! I will say though that having a fridge this small and not having a car to get to the commissary (therefore walking about a mile each way) should help me loose some weight... Be it either from all the walking to and from, or just going hungry because I don't feel like walking... lol
here is our view...

Pretty view.
