Some Success with the new Language

You might be thinking I'm talking about myself or my Husband having the success with the new language, but I'm not.  We are having a little bit of success at learning some of the words and how to use them and it's going actually pretty good.

What surprised me though was today after nap, we opened the lodge door to take down the 'do not disturb' sign.  In the hall were 3 Japanese workmen who are replacing the door handles and locks.  DD, who will hardly speak English, ran out there, always excited to see new people and said "Konnichiwa".  Of course it was not perfectly pronounced, since she's only 17 mos old, and I, not listening for her to speak Japanese, wouldn't have noticed it, had all the men not stopped what they were doing in shock, to turn to her, say Konnichiwa back, give her a little bow of greeting and chuckle with surprise at such a little girl speaking to them in their own language.

Ha, maybe the reason she's not really been talking yet is that she's deciding which language she wants to learn first...  And she sure does insist on carrying our English to Japanese dictionary around whenever she gets a chance.

  2. What an adorable story! Oh, how precious. And what an opportunity for her to grow up bilingual in one of the toughest languages for a westerner to learn!
